about

Inspired by a verse in the Christian King James Bible; "I call God as my witness--and I stake my life on it--that it was in order to spare you that I did not return to Corinth."2 Corinthians 1:23. In this version of the bible, it is the only instance where the phrase "God as my Witness" was used. I found this interesting and really pondered how grand a statement that is. Interestingly enough, the context it was used in was for the purposes of convincing someone else of legitimacy. The legitimacy of words spoken. The song is about how we are witness to the lies we tell ourselves and the rationalization that inevitably follows.

lyrics

V1
Beaten down and wounded
Just another sign
I have been misguided
I have been so blind

It's hard to tell what's worse
A feeling of defeat,
The licking my wounds
The depth of my bleed

Every chance I wasted
I'm nothing by design
Don't tell me I'm forsaken
They will bury me alive

Pain can not be feared
When it's all I know
Shame is where I dwell
Broken are my bones

No one said that life was fair

Chorus
I've been ripped apart
Torn asunder
Facing all truth
Is a lie
Every attempt has failed
For redemption
As God as my witness
As God as my witness
I've tried

V2
I have killed my worth
Nothing to defend
Nevermind intention
Time to start again

Not for lack of effort
My endeavors lost
The suffering I receive
what my failure will cost

I will accept my fate
I'm not afraid to die
It's a long time coming
And ready am I

My death is within
The storm cannot be weathered
People cannot see
There's blood in the water

Chorus
