about

Cthulhu (/kəˈθuːluː/ kə-THOO-loo) is a cosmic entity created by writer H. P. Lovecraft and first introduced in the short story "The Call of Cthulhu", published in the American pulp magazine Weird Tales in 1928. Considered a Great Old One within the pantheon of Lovecraftian cosmic entities, the creature has since been featured in numerous popular culture references. Lovecraft depicts Cthulhu as a gigantic entity worshipped by cultists. Cthulhu's appearance is described as looking like an octopus, a dragon, and a caricature of human form. Its name was given to the Lovecraft-inspired universe where it and its fellow entities existed, the Cthulhu Mythos.
In 2014, science and technology scholar Donna Haraway gave a talk about "Cthulucene", in which she proposed the term "Chthulucene" as an alternative for the concept of the Anthropocene era, due to the entangling interconnectedness of all supposedly individual beings. Haraway has denied any indebtedness to Lovecraft's Cthulhu, claiming that her "Cthulu" is derived from the Greek khthonios, meaning "of the earth". However, the Lovecraft character is much closer to her coined term than the Greek root, and her description of its meaning coincides with Lovecraft's idea of the apocalyptic scale of the threat of Cthulhu, with his horrifying tentacles, to collapse civilization into an endless dark horror: “Chthulucene does not close in on itself; it does not round off; its contact zones are ubiquitous and continuously spin out loopy tendrils.”
H.P. Lovecraft and his mythos have had a significant influence on later works in a wide variety of media. From video games and movies to clothing and political satire, the Cthulhu Mythos is still very alive.
There is even a Church of the SubGenius parody religion which includes some aspects of the Cthulhu Mythos, such as the Elder Gods who are led by Yog-Sothoth.
The song is about the escape from reality. This idea stems from the worship of a deity that would annihilate mankind such as Cthulhu and taking comfort in that thought. It's almost as if people would rather believe in something that will kill them rather than live in the reality we have.

lyrics

V1
I feel another wave, of disappointing struggle, rolling over me
I thought for sure, I could sustain, some kind of life if I could slow the bleed, it's killing me

Bridge
Without exemption
No leniency
There is no madness given asylum can't you see

Sub verse
This life has taken more than what was ever offered
Feeling nothing but regret, a dull blade and the faltered
Not once has it owned up to what was earned and paid for
Life now Desensitized, I say bring on horror...

Chorus
In a foreboding disaster
In calamity, In catastrophe
In the name of all that's holy
nothing to defend, it will finally End
In a final premonition
People fall and pray, In a violent way
Life will lay waste now to all we see
This is the reprieve, from reality

V2
I pray for blackened skies
And endless cries
To show us all the end

That this is meaningless
The abyss
Is Born from within

It could not be avoided
To have destroyed those who doubted

I pray for rising seas
The burning trees
I pray it consumes me

Sub verse
This life has taken more than what was ever offered
Feeling nothing but regret, a dull blade and the faltered
Not once has it owned up to what was earned and paid for
Life now Desensitized, I say bring on horror.....

Chorus
In a foreboding disaster
In calamity, In catastrophe
In the name of all that's holy
nothing to defend, it will finally End
In a final premonition
People fall and pray, In a violent way
Life will lay waste now to all we see
This is the reprieve, from reality
