about

Built from 600 to 1000 CE, Ellora Caves lie in the Sahyadri hills in Aurangabad. The Ellora Caves comprise Hindu, Buddhist, and Jain temples and over 100 caves with only 34 open to the public excavated from the basalt cliffs in the Charanandari hills. Ellora Caves served as lodgings to the traveling Buddhist and Jain monks besides being a site for the trade route. There are 17 Hindu caves, 12 Buddhist and five Jain caves with deities, carvings, and even monasteries depicting the mythology of each religion. These caves constructed near each other stand for harmony and solidarity among all faiths and beliefs.

A part of the Hindu and Buddhist Caves were built during the Rashtrakuta dynasty, and the Jain Caves were built by the Yadav dynasty. It is not yet established as to which caves were built first - the Hindu or the Buddhist. Based on the archaeological evidence found at various sites it was deduced that there were essentially three major construction periods for the Ellora caves: the Hindu period from 550 to 600 CE, the Buddhist period from 600 to 730 CE, and the final phase, the Jain and Hindu period lasting from 730 to 950 CE.

This location was chosen because even though all conflicts throughout time had an opportunity to destroy this place of peace, people decided to leave it be. This lead me to write the song about people and the incapacity to see the evolution of who they were becoming and who they are now. Let your past self be and move forward in peace.

lyrics

Chorus
In Memory of ... who I used to be A mind seething with misery, The damage bleeds out the hate in me In Memory of who I used to be

V1
There was a time when indecision Wasn't contingent on being the same And of the mind when being defiant Wasn't reliant On someone to blame 2x Bridge Blasphemy and cigarettes Every deep breath caused stress

V2
It is a crime that our existence A persistence In face of pain And of the mind to survive the battle Endure the rattle As we suffocate It has been said build from foundation Through frustration Steady the rise But in the neglect rooted in sorrow The build is hollow And so to demise Interlude The Beams splintering The floors shifting The Windows yield and explode The Metal collapsing The walls are cracking And now to fear the unknown

Chorus
In Memory of ... who I used to be A mind seething with misery The damage bleeding the hate in me In Memory of ... who I used to be
