The Mayan culture has many aspects well-known worldwide. One such cultural aspect is the Mayan calendar. In 2009, information started to stir on a global level among the scientific community and online in general. It was said that the Mayan long-count calendar—which spans roughly 5,125 years starting in 3114 B.C.—reaches the end of a cycle on December 21, 2012. This was found to be true. This spawned rumors and speculation that the reason why the calendar ended was because it was the end of the world. This, of course, was found to be false. However, prior to that date, the speculation continued to grow to monumental proportions. The closer that date came, the more media outlets began to focus on it. Talk shows, news outlets, even fictional TV shows used it as a topic. The movie industry picked up on it as well creating and releasing a blockbuster movie the same year of the supposed end, named 2012. The song this month is called "Doomsday", inspired not by the Mayan calendar directly, but rather the paranoia it caused in our so-called "civil" society.
lyrics
V1
The frantic deviants see opportunity
When chaos invades countless lives
There seems to be a virus hidden from our view
Brought to bare through desperate times
Bridge
Burdened are, the people, searching for an out
Burned and buried, ambition, praying in doubt
Sub Bridge
Violence under disguise
of self-preservation
V2
All these actions lead us down a Vicious road
Sleep deprivation has now taken a hold
Bridge 2
End of Days, a relief, from this everlasting pain
We all lose, energy, just to fit the mold of "sane"
Chorus
The sky's wide open
The collapse starts within
Convincing yourself
That you are innocent
The light is dimming
with nothing left to pray
No more candles burning
Nothing left to say...
Bring on Doomsday
V3
Hunger, fear, and hatred now occupy the streets
Hunting for the wounded to behead
Allies become enemies strangers in the fray
Now desensitized to the dead
Sub bridge 2
Violence under disguise
of self-preservation
Need to rationalize
Actions in starvation
Every resource fading
People desperate
Acting out of instinct
Burning every bridge
Interlude
Seeking
Release
Cold and
Starving
Beyond
No time
To grieve
Loved ones
Bodies
Bridge
Burdened are, the people, searching for an out
Burned and buried, ambition, praying in doubt
Chorus
The sky's wide open
The collapse starts within
Convincing yourself
That you are innocent
The light is dimming
with nothing left to pray
No more candles burning
Nothing left to say 2x
Last stand
A feeling now has consumed all existence
You know you have felt it too
The rise of anger and a stagnant fear
Don't pretend this isn't inside you
Life continues to pile on and on
It builds turning frustration to hate
Never was there a need of legend preaching of the end
We will be the gods of our own Doomsday
